> **Pros**: I used SSL VPN to provide VPN connections between mobile and laptop clients and J2EE enterprise servers. The great approach of using TLS to provide the VPN tunnels is really appealing and avoid the use of specialized VPN clients to establish the end-to-end channels. Using Web browsers or specifically tuned HTTPs clients (developed in Java or Python), we managed to create VPN connections with E2EE very flexibly and without the need of complicated VPN client configuration. Running at the Transport layer of the TCP/IP stack, the configuration and tuning of SSL VPN is much easier than using protocols at lower layers such as IP SEC.
> 
> **Cons**: I don't like the flexibility incorporated with split tunneling which allows SSL VPN to use a combination of secure (private) and insecure (public) channels through a VPN connection. This raises a lot of security concerns if attackers can use this feature to carry insecure sessions on top of an SSL VPN connection.
> 
> Great experience from a developer point of view.
