Reviews of Datarails
Datarails is a great time saver
Comments: I love datarails. The implementation team was fantastic and I haven't found anything lacking. We even asked for some functionality to be added to our implementation team, and a few months later they rolled it out as a feature for all users to enjoy.
Pros:
Datarails integrates into our accounting system and we upload our operational data via Excel so we can see our whole workspace in 1 place - the best part is the ad-hoc reporting ability in native Excel.
Cons:
The dynamic ranges we use are massive and can bog down Excel so we had to upgrade our computers......pretty sure this is an Excel issue vs a Data Rails issue though.
Experience with DataRails
Comments: The overall experience with DataRails has been positive, but the company seems more interested with automating as much as possible rather than in teaching and empowering customers to become super users of the software.
Pros:
Once set up, DataRails is an effective tool to manage our regular as well as ad hoc financial reporting. It has saved time in constructing standard reports, thus freeing up time for deeper analysis.
Cons:
The process of setting up the environment can be tedious and confusing. Troubleshooting errors can be time consuming, particularly if your inputs are larger files (Any change to the Data Mapper needs to process to all files within a File Box) or if you have multiple inputs with different mappers (When input files are not uniform in structure, attempting to construct uniform mappers across inputs can be maddening). There is no readily available resource that can thoroughly or effectively explain the flow of data or how to construct a Data Mapper to specific needs.

VIN Product Assessment
Comments: The customer support and response is excellent
Pros:
Easy to navigate and set-up the dashboards
Cons:
It doesn't work well with Quickbook Desktop. It requires a lot of manual processes. It does not automatically integrate with the QB desktop version. It's too cumbersome.
Fantastic and Flexible Supporting Software
Comments: Datarails has been great in getting us the help we need to get not only our financials more easily displayed, but get employees up to date with processes as well.
Pros:
Datarails makes financial analytics much smoother than before. You are able to knock out the data collection portion of financial tasks in nearly an instant, and if you are capable with the system even get it to the point it does a majority for you.
Cons:
The user interface can be rough to pick up on when using the mapper and other tools. The help course videos are great and will get you up to speed but it can be a bear without them.
Alternatives Considered:
CEO-friendly FP&A tool
Comments: The company's support and new feature rollout cadence is fantastic. They are very much innovating and doing all the right things. Very bullish on them!
Pros:
The dashboard and visualizations are the best part of Datarails. Our finance team can readily create the visualizations on our data that I can benefit the most from. Deltas and variances jump out at you, trendlines are clear, and the data reporting capabilities really are in a class by themselves.
Cons:
Like any FP&A tool, it starts out slow. Your team has to learn how to leverage the tool and work with data that is originating outside of financial systems. It's taken us well over a year to get to the point where we're getting results and answers faster through Datarails than by manually creating a one-off report in Excel. The work has been worth it though, and it's just one of those inevitable aspects of leveling up your reporting and forecasting capabilities: it's not going to happen overnight or without a lot of training and validation work.

Best investment for our finance team
Comments: With this platform finance brings in data from many sources in little time. This responsivity and accessibility has been essential to the identification of key drivers that used to be produced in 5 times the amount of time. Information is available on a global scale instantly so we can standardize analyses. A great investment if you’re looking to improve processes
Pros:
Finance is pleased with the ease of use and accessibility of data
Cons:
Would be happy if there were more frequent updates

Well said! Providing a reporting solution that works on excel is what separates us from our competitors. Please get in touch with your account manager to hear about our most recent updates, they are pretty exciting!

Datarails has become an integral part of our management reporting framework
Comments: The Datarails product and support team have been very good to work with. The product has automated several very manual processes that save us time and deliver actionable information more quickly.
Pros:
Seamless integration with key business applications; strong reporting and dashboarding capabilities; integrates well with Excel to allow for next-level data manipulation and analysis.
Cons:
Early in the implementation we discovered a limitation on the volume of data we could effectively pull into and analyze with Datarails. The implementation team helped us reconfigure some workflows, limit the data we needed to expose to Datarails, and we got to a good, workable solution.

Best financial tool out there, dependable and accurate
Comments: DataRails has substantially improved the accuracy of our budgeting and forecasting. I love the ease of it, how accessible it makes our numbers, and how simple it is to follow real-time statuses. With DataRails we know our figures are accurate and up to date, which is precisely what we need from the numbers we base important decisions on.
Pros:
-There are many ways to manipulate and look at your data -Drill downs are amazing. Can look at the smallest of variables. -Can work on both Excel and their Insights feature depending on what I want -Easy to use -Easy to connect with our ERP system
Cons:
Sometimes it was buggy when logging out. Other than that I can't think of any other notable cons, it really is a great system.

Companies that use DataRails don't need to migrate from excel, which is why choosing DataRails doesn't require making any changes to internal workflows. As you pointed out, noticing the smallest variables is what we believe is key to accurate, flexible and efficient reporting.
Datarails is THE easiest Data reporting software
Comments: From implementation, to connecting with our existing ERP, it's been a piece of cake to use. Learning more of the complex formulas and data comparison's now and really if you have a tiny bit of formula usage background, like even just excel formula's, then it isn't hard to use at all. And that's for the complex, multi-table data combining type of reporting.
Pros:
We've utilized other softwares for our clients, NSAW, Quickbooks, Custom Spreadsheets - nothing has been easier to implement and use AND then share with colleagues than Datarails
Cons:
Honestly, it's been about 4 months and I haven't had a bad experience with Datarails yet.
Alternatives Considered:
Growing Together
Pros:
DataRails is amazing at increasing the speed of analysis. It has helped us gain a very quick overview of our business and all the branches.
Cons:
As someone who needs to teach this to others, it is hard to teach to someone who does not have some background with technology. Even people with some background in excel have a tough time with all of the functionality offered.
Best FP&A Software
Comments: Fantastic! It has streamlined my workdays allowing me to focus on analysis instead of creating new reports.
Pros:
Datarails has massively cut down on the time we spend assembling reports, updating our KPI's and financial reporting package is streamlined with the ability to refresh data in Excel, in addition version control is a thing of the past as we are easily able to keep track of what data we upload and when files were changed. The dashboards and widgets allow for quick and easy visualization of our data that we distribute across our locations for managers to use. Datarails continues to develop the software adding new features at a regular cadence.
Cons:
There is not much I have run into that I dislike about the software, in the beginning some of the formula writing in setting up custom columns was difficult but the release of Datarails University with all the tutorials solved many of the issues of needing a refresher on how to do certain things in the software.
Amazing system with amazing support
Comments: DataRails has allowed us to monitor the performance of our business in ways we simply could not before. We have also been able to simplify a number of our reporting processes. These two things have allowed us to share information with a wider pool of stakeholders within our company and monitor the performance of our business much more closely.
Pros:
DataRails provides us with version control, data transformation, and visualization tools that we did not have before. We have streamlined many of our reporting processes, and we also use DataRails to feed a number of Excel and PowerPoint-based reports. DataRails support is very responsive.
Cons:
Some features don't work as expected, and it can be hard to tell if it because of a bug or user error.
DataRails - an efficient and simple tool with potential for improvement
Pros:
I like the following items about datarails 1) its simplicity in terms of report creation and implementation 2) it is a great collaborative tool
Cons:
Areas of improvement include: 1) The dashbaord functionality is very limited compared to tools such as Tableau. I would like to see more features in terms of the types of graphs and customizability 2) API connections should be alot easier to implement. We have been struggling to get a live connection to DataRails from our ERP for some time now
Datarails Review
Pros:
I enjoyed the flexibility to integrate excel files into the dashboards that were not DR widgets or formulas
Cons:
I think there are some rough around edge features that could be tweaked for quality of life, but nothing that is breaking anything. Mainly centered around more options in the widgets and dashboards
Datarails review
Comments: Excellent onboarding experience, customer service is amazing.
Pros:
The ability to create a template in excel and then hand off the weekly creation to a lower cost resource.
Cons:
We enjoyed the implementation process a great day. It was frustrating at some times, but mostly because we all had a learning curve (including our implementation specialist) with what we wanted to accomplish as a business and how to accomplish that.
Alternatives Considered:
Gives me the flexibility to make updates more frequently
Comments: Great customer support starting during the demonstration phase and going throughout implementation and use. I choose DataRails because it gave me enough flexibility to present whatever data I wanted in the format I wanted. The customer support also helped to make it easy to upload data and start creating my dashboard.
Pros:
Great customer support, they do a lot of the work so I can just feed data and get the information I need in the format I want.
Cons:
Sometimes the software is cumbersome. Support always helps with any issues I have but I wish it was user friendly enough that I could do more without assistance. I am still learning and do more every month on my own.

Thank you Bradley for the positive review! As you mentioned, using DataRails is how finance teams supercharge their Excel spreadsheets. Our great support team was thrilled to get such positive feedback on their amazing customer service.
Datarails overview
Comments: Datarails has greatly improved reporting for me as I create packages with a large quantity of sheets that are very easy to update by pulling down information from datarails and it does it much quicker than before Datarails.
Pros:
Datarails brings a lot of value to financial planning and analysis by making financial processes more accurate and efficient. With its ability to integrate data from different systems, Datarails provides a comprehensive view of financial information, making reporting and analysis more straightforward.
Cons:
The initial setup and integration with existing systems might be complex, as all new things can come with a learning curve, adjusting to new functions usually proves difficult at first.
Great product, high ROI
Comments:
The solution provided a high ROI for both compliance/SOX teams and the end users.
As for the end users this is a fully transparent solution, the on boarding was smooth and fast.
Pros:
Before implementing DataRails, we had no idea what is going on with our spreadsheets across our organization. Today, we have a clear overview of our EUC operations across the organization including real time alerts on any suspicious activity. Our finance users are happy with the benefits the application delivered to their day to day work.
Cons:
As a SaaS solution, DataRails release a weekly versions which sometime require our teams to learn these changes on the go.
Datarails Response

Thank you for pointing out the real time reporting. As many people learn the hard way, learning too late of suspicious activity is devastating to many organizations. Using DataRails, these activities can be detected instantly and handled accordingly.
Best FPA Tool on the market
Comments: great. Ari was amazing in implementation
Pros:
flexibility with excel is key, i find it easy to use and scalable
Cons:
integtration with sage is not perfect, requiring workaround
Finally addressing spreadsheet EUC
Comments: It's a solution that all financial services need but don't have. We were trying to work with our internal controls, but it was proving to be too manually intensive and costly with upkeep and designated staff. Understanding what is happening/happened to all our spreadsheet data at any given time is so useful.
Pros:
Spreadsheets are inherently unstructured, and DataRails structured all my organizational data to allow for complete governance and compliance.
Cons:
Have been a customer for a year and don't have any yet.

Experience with Datarail
Pros:
I like the flexibility and how intuitive the platform is Datarail. I only had great experience working with their support team and they answered in a timely manner every time I had questions.
Cons:
I would love a datarail team who could recreate our financial package from our excel version into Datarail because that part can be very time consuming.
DataRails is friendly and very easy to use
Comments: I have had good experiences with DataRails.
Pros:
I like the ease of budgeting and maintaining my departments spending- I like the dig down functions
Cons:
I haven't found anything yet. I find the system user friendly and easy to use.

Hi Matthew, thank you so much for the kind review, and most of all, for agreeing to take part in one of our success story case studies. We look forward to helping you and your team continuously improve the FP&A reporting processes.
Accuracy and Timeliness saves time for Effective Analysis
Pros:
Automation of month-end consolidation Uploading of source documents with superb ease Multicurrency subsidiaries taken care of with FX translation tables Dashboard impressively easy to build Customer support respond time is excellent
Cons:
Refresh of data takes very long, don't know when Refresh is complete as numbers continue to change even after pressing Refresh button several times. Formulas got too complex on the reports, had to use simple excel to work around it. Use of Adjustments not very user friendly, there are many adjustments at consolidation. Elimination at cosol is done manually, wished the system could have taken care of it.
very good
Pros:
ease of use visual graphs it is responding fast
Cons:
when filtering - to get the view, sometimes it say too much data
