ServiceTrace as a Service in conext of a Solution Provider

4.0 9 years ago

Comments: We use ServiceTrace as a shared system as well as a set of dedicated systems for roughly 2 dozens of customers we sell our services to. It allows us to handle services for these customers in a multitenant capable, highly scalable environment. The measurement mechanism is capable to measure nearly any application a human being can handle. The software fits into standardized DC operations with low effort and reliable long term stability.
It can handle a high number of measurement points and manage those effectively from a single point of administration.
The innovation measured in functionality per year is impressive.

Pros:

The flexible and easy to use programming style gives high efficieny in creating and maintaining the measurements. Intelligent error handling capabilities deliver high stability of measurement data collection even in varying situations. The extremely small firewall footprint allows shared installations in highly segmented network environments (multi enterprise services). The built in Multitracer functionality allows highly economic utilization of the machines , the measurements run on (up to massive concurrent usecases on one machine). It also provides hidden session that keeps visiting eyes away from looking at the measurement sessions (security feature). The ControlCenter (built in management component) allows to manage all distributed use cases to be efficiently managed from a single place across all tenants.

Cons:

When you deploy high numbers of components (robots, workflows, reports, dashboards, tenants), navigation and keeping an overview may get difficult.

Excellent solution to measure end user experience, very easy to implement and handle

5.0 9 years ago

Comments: ServiceTracer is an excellent solution to measure end user experience - both in daily IT operation as well as in test automation. It is very easy to implement and handle. With the image pattern recognition based measurement ServiceTracer is very robust and flexible. The creation of measurement workflows in a graphical workflow editor enables us to set up new measurement within a few hours without any coding, so it can be used by our application specialists (who typically don't have performance monitoring skills). Customer support is excellent and very fast.

Pros:

Image pattern recognition based measurement - what you measure is what the end users really see on their GUI. Workflow Editor for fast and simple creation of new measurements. MultiTracer feature for hidden and parallel measurements, e.g. for test automation.

Cons:

Deeper analytics of application behaviour are not provided, as the solution is "not intrusive". Our take here is to use ServiceTracer for the daily business across applications and frontends. If performance problems or degradations cannot be analyzed to the root cause of the problem we still can use a deep-dive tool such as Tivoli, which requires much more efforts. This approach enables us to be fast and cost efficient with the mass of the measurements and spend the effort for the "big guys" only if needed.
