All of Datadog's basic building blocks are top-notch. Their data ingestion is lightning fast and (usually) dependable, their graph widget is adaptable and usable in a wide variety of contexts, and they have a good track record of introducing products that combine these features.

Cons:

Our experiences with Datadog support have been continuously negative; the company goes out of its way to avoid direct communication and offers irrelevant answers.

Effective Monitoring Solution

Comments: Overall, Datadog gets the job done. Through APM, tracing, infrastucture metrics and log explorer, I’m able to triage my incidents effectively. The Watchdog product is also super convenient. Its able to general catch issues/changes that may impact your business. Its very useful especially when/if you’re missing some alerts that were not accounted for.

Pros:

The UI and UX is intuitive for the most part.

Cons:

Depending on the product being used, UI can be alittle overwhelming and complex.

Alternatives Considered: New Relic

Reasons for Switching to Datadog: At the time, cost reduction and we ended up getting more value from it.

Datadog has been a game changer for me to easily monitor my applications and infrastructure.

I love the customizable dashboards and the variety of integrations available. It has made monitoring a breeze!

Cons:

The cost can be a bit high for smaller businesses and the learning curve for some features is steep.

Comments: Datadog is fantastic. Expensive, but fantastic.

Pros:

The easy of visualizeation and searching vs any other platform.

Navigating is difficult, it relies on you memorizing icon means what, or what dropdown a service falls under.

Comments: Overall, I am happy with it. The transition from ELK stack to Datadog feels intuitive.

Pros:

Everything is packed into one platform, that makes it the single point when it comes to monitoring.

Cons:

Support for Maven and Gradle is not so great. It doesn't really know how to check for actual dependency versions used in my project.

Reliable Monitoring for Backend Systems

Comments: Datadog has made backend monitoring and debugging much smoother for me. The ability to correlate logs, traces, and metrics in one place helps speed up root cause analysis. While there’s a bit of a learning curve initially, once set up, it becomes an essential part of the workflow.

Pros:

As a backend developer, I find Datadog extremely useful for monitoring logs, metrics, and traces in real time. It integrates well with most tools and services we use, making it easy to identify bottlenecks or errors. The dashboards are highly customizable, which helps with specific backend performance tracking.

Cons:

The pricing becomes expensive as usage scales, especially for log ingestion. Some of the advanced configurations, like setting up alerts for specific backend metrics, can take some time to figure out.

Works very nice when you need to collect logs from multiple different platforms/environments. Good monitoring/alerting capabilities.

As a large tool it has its own learning path. Takes some time to learn different concepts, but well worth time investment

The user interface is very simple and customer support and account help our teams in providing training and guidance in case of any issue. It can easily integrate with all third-party tools like Jira, slack, opsgenie

The most like features of datadog are it provides real-time monitoring of any happens In the system and it is easily customizable. With the help of logs, we can easily create the monitor and dashboards. It can easily use all other third-party tools and can create alerts. It also provides anomaly which works on past data and it is sensitive and useful. Datadog is also AI capable, There is a feature called Datadog Insight which can easily detect any error in the system.

Cons:

Datadog is a fairly new application, Learning advanced features we are not able to find much documentation and learning on the internet. It also stores limited historical data and licensing is fairly high compared to similar monitoring platforms.

Pricing is very very hight compared to competitors. So this might be an overkill for some companies that in a beginning.

Comments: One of the best tool as compared to others to use for logs. Easy to integrate and use.

Pros:

The efficiency and features of the tools, how quickly it can fetch logs and extensive search features.

Cons:

Sometimes, it become very difficult to get log of a particular data stream or single stream and need to search alot of logs. Plus, there should be a text feature so don't need to click each log or hover feature.

It has very useful features, but some of them are not very intuitive which makes it difficult when transitioning from other tool

Pros:

It is awesome for monitoring everything - I mostly used it for apps and servers. It is easy to use, customizes dashboards, and plays well with other tools. Real-time insights are a big help. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth it for the peace of mind it brings.

Cons:

It can get a tad pricey when you scale up. Plus, the learning curve can be a bit steep for beginners. And, the free tier isn't as generous as some others out there. It used a lot of my computer's memory.
