About Comet Backup
Start running backups and restores in less than 15 minutes! Comet is a fast, secure all-in-one backup platform for IT professionals.
Easy to use, administrators can see 'everything' at a glance. Very easy to administer, deploy, etc.
I would rather Comet have native integration for Discord and Twilio for alerting and reporting.

Comet backup for a Cloud provider
Comments:
We were looking for a backup application that should be able to store efficiently the backup jobs to a cloud storage without using local temporal space.
After a few evaluations we came to Comet, has a good pricing model, it's easy to start with and we are a happy user for more than 2 years.
We are running hundred of backup jobs each day, and a few restores each quarter (we are lucky), and we never had any issue caused by Comet Backup.
Pros:
I was impressed by the ease of use of the server, how to deploy agents and how easy was to extract information from the server to report to our users how the backup was protecting their information. Also, every time we opened a case with Comet, response time and quality was top notch.
Cons:
It doesn't integrate (yet) with change tracking with the hypervisor so all the virtual disk has to be read each time, and that it'd be nice to integrate with S3 protocol Object locks to hedge against potential ramsonware attacks. I know that they are on it on both things but still not available.
Our MSP trusts Comet Backup for all of our customers
Comments: We are very pleased with Comet Backup as an MSP. We are using it to serve hundreds of customers and device and I can sleep well at night knowing it's taking care of backing up our critical data for all of our customers.
Pros:
The software works very well! We do mostly disk image backups and they have been flawless, fast and storage efficient. I love that Comet Backup has a self-hosted option which we are using. The support has been top notch and very responsive and helpful when we need them to answer questions. Their documentation is also top notch.
Cons:
I don't really have any cons but I do have some feature requests such as more integrations, like Discord integration and Twilio SMS integration. Comet Backup does support custom webhooks and we've been able to achieve what we need with that but then I have to support our custom webhook integrations. I would rather Comet have native integration for Discord and Twilio for alerting and reporting.
Alternatives Considered: MSP360 Backup and Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: Axcient was very error prone and higher cost. Datto was more like a less configurable black box compared to Comet with less options.
Switched From: Datto RMM, Datto EDR and x360Recover
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: Comet has the enterprise features we need without being super expensive.
Review Cloud Web
Comments: Overall it's between OK and good. Hopefully there will be big updates to smooth out the ease-of-use.
Pros:
The pricing, the featureset and the scheduling of tasks.
Cons:
The Server back-end, sometimes there are weird errors backing up restored VM's, sometimes slow performance, no instant disaster recovery from the data.
Great Backup Software for MSP
Comments: Overall the software is better than others that I have tried and I think it's a good value for the money.
Pros:
I like the ease of use as well as the ability to see what is going on quickly with my end points. Since it works with my MSP software I can get reports and such through there.
Cons:
There isn't much that I don't like, but selecting what needs to be backed up and retention can be a little confusing.
Alternatives Considered: Acronis Cyber Backup
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: Price and the fact that it worked with my MSP software without addons.
Switched From: MSP360 Backup
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: The price was a big factor of my decision.
COmet backup for small business
Comments: I liked using it and when they changed the pricing model, I attempted to move away from them. I did not have any luck with three other vendors so I came back. They are priced fairly now and have a good product.
Pros:
Ease of setup and use. I also like the ability to see all backup status on one page.
Cons:
I didn't care for the new pricing model, but I was not alone. Comet changed it, so everything is good now.
Alternatives Considered: NAKIVO Backup & Replication and BDRSuite
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: Price and ease of use. Intronis was very difficult to use in terms of their website.
Switched From: Barracuda Intronis Backup
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: Pricing was one factor. The other was, I could not get the other products to work reliably. They obviously work for others, but I had issues.
Great backup Program
Comments: I have been using it a long time. I moved to another vendor for about a year but came right back. It's the best value for the money.
Pros:
I like the ability to host my own server.
Cons:
I cannot restore an image to a smaller drive. I wish the API was easier to use.
perfect backup solution for me as an MSP
Comments: Easy to setup. Great startup offer from Comet guys. Been working with it for about a month. Setup of backups jobs and cloud storage is very easy. Great solution for (small) MSP!
Pros:
Complete solutions, perfect for backup of my and my customers data. Pay per use, so no high startup costs. Choice to self host(cheaper) of managed hosting(quite a lot more expensive)
Cons:
Setting up a comet server can be expensive if you just start or dont have a big customer base for it. Need to do self-hosted to make it affordable, but starting the Docker container is perfect and easy.
Partner Iticom Tecnologia
Pros:
What I liked most about Comet Backup is its flexibility and security. The customizable storage options and fast recovery process make it a reliable solution for data protection.
Cons:
What I liked least about Comet Backup is its complex initial setup. It requires some technical knowledge to configure properly.
Comet is good with a steep learning curve.
Comments: 3/5 stars. It is easy to manage customers from the back end, easy to deploy and set up a schedule for backing up files, but time-consuming to restore or teach a client how to restore a file. BMR is unusable in my experience.
Pros:
Easy to deploy; user interface is intuitive.
Cons:
Restoring isn't user-friendly. Baremetal recovery is terrible. Documentation is not good for this task. Support very poor.
CometBackup is great for MSPs!
Comments: Absolutely amazing - this is a great piece of software and as a backup solution works great for us.
Pros:
So easy to setup - extremely easy to use interface and even the whole server setup is easy
Cons:
Not much we didn't like about it to be honest - we used to use ahsay and cometbackup so much better!
the best backu psolution I have found to date
Comments: I have used comet backup for several years and it ticks all of the boxes - it is easy to use, supports all different client scenarios and can back up data, sql databases and so on. It is centrally managed which is great, it backs up data very efficiently and the thing I like most about it is that you have the option of using their fully managed backup servers OR installing the software on your own infrastructure and using your own servers for the backup sets. Many companies dont offer this and it often makes backu very expensive, whereas with comet backup I can use my own affordable infrastructure and be in control of everything myself.
Pros:
I love comet backup because it is easy to use, feature rich and also gives me the option of managing my own infrastructure for both the server application and the backup storage. It is the best backup solution I have found in this respect.
Cons:
The only bad thing I can think of is that restores take quite a while and it doesnt seem to save on transfers when some or part of the files being restored already exist locally. But that is me being very picky and overall I love comet backup.
Great backup good price
Comments: The support team has been great and will even schedule a zoom to help you sort out your issue, they keep adding features and functionality so it just keep getting better, I feel like there are better solutions on the market but not at the price point.
Pros:
Central cloud backup Server with options to and onsite backup servers too. Linux option for the backup server reduces our cost. No cost to run the backup server only cost per client device. Support for most types of storage. DAS, NAS, S3 and more.
Cons:
Restores can be slower then some competitors, no option to live mount the data found in some of the competition. Storage locking can be a challenge.
Alternatives Considered: Acronis Cyber Backup, NAKIVO Backup & Replication and Ahsay Offsite Backup Server
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: Pricing given to use when joining and used to price our product to clients changed and it became unfeasible for us to continue, their sales team did not care and made excuses as to why they could not honer the original price, there were a few other issue with the software and support response was also poor.
Switched From: MSP360 Backup
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: The price point was good and it included re branding and one of the biggest things was the image backup that did not rely on windows built in backup.
Comet after a year.
Comments: So far, so good. It seems to be reliable for the most part. Would like some more in depth reporting and monitoring features, but for the price, it's been very good value.
Pros:
Quite easy to set up, inexpensive pricing.
Cons:
Need to be able to back up MS365 data without relying on a dedicated endpoint at the client end. We can't use it for MS365 backups without that feature and are using another backup tool for that side of backups.
Alternatives Considered: Cove Data Protection
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: Pricing and feature set. Comet had more features for the price. We also loved the idea of self hosting the server and using Wasabi / S3 as a storage target.
Switched From: MSP360 Backup
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: Pretty much it came down to price. Veeam and Cove were both more mature platforms, and had more features, but Comet ticked our boxes at a better price point.
Gets the job done
Comments: Very well. There is nothing with the backups I see as a problem. Gets the job done.
Pros:
Good support, good options. It can backup everything I need with ease.
Cons:
How to calculate the billing per month per tenant could be easier.
Alternatives Considered: MSP360 Backup
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: To not having to deal with our own hardware.
Switched From: Veeam Data Platform and Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: Features and the easily understood pricing.
Working great so far.
Pros:
I found it simple to set up the server. I like that it's pretty customizable and the one time I did contact support, they were friendly and helpful. It's just worked since I got it installed.
Cons:
Not sure, maybe wish there were slight discounts on the per seat licenses or something when self hosting, but really, I don't think there is room to complain about pricing right now, it's a significantly better deal than something like Veeam when you just need something simple. Maybe some kind of automatic backup verification that can reload backups into VMs, check they boot and such and then delete similar to what bigger backup software have, but that's a big feature. Oh, and maybe an obvious way to use your own SSL certs instead of LetsEncrypt.
Alternatives Considered: UrBackup
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: Pricing largely, and in the case of UrBackup, it was just too complex for me to get set up and working right.
Excellent Backup Solution
Comments: The Windows Image Backup feature allows users to create a full system backup, ensuring that all files, settings, and applications are securely stored. This is particularly useful for disaster recovery, as it enables quick restoration in case of system failure, hardware issues, or accidental data loss. The process is straightforward, though it may take some time depending on the size of the system. Overall, it’s a reliable and essential tool for maintaining system integrity and preventing data loss.

Cons:
Can be time-consuming, especially for large backups Requires significant storage space No flexibility to back up individual files or folders separately Restoration can be slow and may require booting from recovery media
Great backup solution
Comments: A very good experience, when we have had any questions we have been solved quickly, the solution is stable and is updated very frequently.
Pros:
The ease of deploying the solution internally, customizing it and integrating it with repositories from different public cloud providers.
Cons:
There are functionalities that take time to develop, for example until recently there was no possibility to copy machines in VmWare.
Alternatives Considered: Commvault Cloud
Switched From: Acronis Cyber Backup
Attractively priced backup solution for service providers
Pros:
Product is very easy to use. Wasabi cloud storage is fast, cheap, and fully integrated, requiring zero setup. No issues installing on a wide variety of machines and OSes. Does not pester users; console provides comprehensive overview of status across clients and backup loads.
Cons:
No Google Workspace backup. Costs for backing up Microsoft 365 are out of line with otherwise very reasonable pricing for backup software. Would like to be able to support older versions of Windows Server, because we all have those old servers sitting around somewhere! There are some issues to beware of regarding multiple jobs backing up to a single repository. If a job doesn't complete, you could end up with a locked repository that keeps other jobs from running.
Alternatives Considered: Veeam Data Platform
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: COST! Cove Data Protection is hugely expensive, but is more hands-off reliable and verifiable. Comet requires more admin time to make sure things are going well, but it is 1/3 of the cost.
Switched From: Cove Data Protection
Good backup option for MSPs
Comments: I've found Comet reliable and nice to work with. I intend to keep using it and recommending it to my MSP clients
Pros:
-Easy to deploy and manage -Good for MSPs: supports multiple tenants and the client software allows for rebranding with your own name/logo
Cons:
-Some settings are ambiguous, however support is responsive and I haven't found it to be much of an issue
Ideal for startup's with capital constraints
Comments: The implementation was very simply and the api works well with the 3rd party webapp we use.
Pros:
The fact that you can spin up a quality backup service very quickly and with very little capital makes comet an attractive proposition.
Cons:
The support is a bit clunky due to it's location and the time differences.
Alternatives Considered: Ahsay Offsite Backup Server
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: The server licence costs where a major factor.
Cost effective, easy and reliable.
Pros:
All the features of the comparable products at a much cheaper price point. Was a little nervous at first but after our first restore - we are sold! Easy to use, reliable, cost effective. Frequent feature updates too. What more is to say.
Cons:
Nothing. Simple to roll out within the company to manage all our clients.
Secure Backup Solution for enhancement.
Comments: Comet Backup is solid and reliable as well. Although the interface may be improved, it is simple to set up. The backup and automation features are excellent if you get used of it.
Pros:
Comet Backup's ease of use and multi-system compatibility impressed me. It is dependable and safe due to its robust encryption and options for both local and online backup. I love how hands-off it is thanks to automation.
Cons:
Beginners can find the setup quite challenging, and the interface might be more user-friendly. A little learning is also required for some advanced features.
MSP first backup
Comments: Easy to setup with great kbs. Support is readily available and sales team is not pushy
Pros:
Very easy to use and setup. Allows white label and doesn’t kill your margins
Cons:
No HIPAA support for comet hosted so you need to self host. Also you have to prepay for months vs post pay
Very good backup solution - Comet
Comments: Windows Image Backup is a great option for users who need a complete, no-compromise recovery solution.
Pros:
Provides a full system snapshot for easy restoration Useful for disaster recovery and hardware replacements No need for third-party backup software Ensures minimal downtime in case of system failure
Cons:
Backup and restore processes can be slow Takes up a significant amount of storage space Lacks flexibility—no option for selective file backups Not the most user-friendly for beginners
MSP Review
Comments: The biggest thing we look for in a product is their support. Support has always been responsive and knowledgeable. You feel like you're getting support from the people who wrote the program and thats is one of the biggest plusses of Comet.
Pros:
Easy to deploy, made in a country we trust
Cons:
Sometimes backup configuration is not straight forward but once you figure it out like any other tool its fine
Alternatives Considered: Bacula Enterprise
Reasons for Choosing Comet Backup: Comet actually had the features we needed
Switched From: Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud
Reasons for Switching to Comet Backup: Deployment was easy and the price was better.
