Vista is ok

4.0 12 months ago

Pros:

I like the ease of it syncing with other software's.

Cons:

There are so many steps to get to where you need to be. The invoices freeze for over 24 hours if you open them twice.

Antiquated and Bulky

3.0 last year

Comments: I haven't used vista for anything beyond time keeping and basic invoicing, but I feel like it needs an overhaul, but in terms of UI, but also functionality.

Pros:

It has many features and groups them all together in one place

Cons:

Filling out forms and records is an arduous task, the software balks at the user when fields are not filled out in the precise manner that it expects. Often after filling out an entire record, it is deleted because one field is incorrect or missing.

Overall a good product but training needs to be more seemless

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: I think it's a good program overall. Much better than JD Edwards, although I haven't used that in years.

Pros:

Forecasting and the PM tools are useful. It is not an intuitive program however and does take training. I feel like most of our staff would benefit from training, but it has not been prioritized yet.

Cons:

There are too many programs/modules that we do not use. Some seem repetitive, it's not obvious to a new user even where to start. There needs to be better training segments like "Training for PM's, for AR, for AP" etc.

The program that does it all

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I came up as a user. It was not easy to learn on my own. But over the years Vista has offered better help screens, new training screens and videos. I have been using Vista for over 20 years. It has always been solid. They keep adding new and better features. It just keeps getting better. It is detail oriented but that is required for all that we ask it to do. I like it.

Pros:

It is a one stop shop that includes all the various aspects of business. It is solid and proven to work together. It is adaptable when needed. We customize everything and Vista does it well.

Cons:

The more we ask it to do the more complicated it gets. There are a lot of options that we do not use or want. But others may love those same features. Not a big fan of the form searches. Most experienced users tell you to use the GRID search and not the form search. Too many issues.

A view from the daily worker

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: I have been working with Viewpoint for 15 years now and have seen many great improvements. Overall the software is user friendly and covers most all our needs. It has been a great software to use and the staffing at Viewpoint are always friendly. I have really liked the addition of the Employee portal, that has saved my team so much time, while ensuring that the field is using the correct jobs and phases.

Pros:

I like the fact that the software is very easy to use. They have many tools to gain more information on how things are set up and processed in the knowledge based articles. Customer service is very supportive and generally able to fix any issues that may arise. The use of the Employee portal is wonderful as well.

Cons:

There are defiantly things that can and should be improved. One of those items would be the labor categories and the fact that you can not use the same craft and class code combination in more that one category. This is really inconvenient given our customers want to see time grouped but others want to see them broken out.

Using the Vista software

5.0 3 years ago

Pros:

The ability to manage security in different ways so only the data you want users to see is a huge benefit. Email capabilities for sending invoices to AR Customers was a huge improvement. The AP invoice approval process saves a lot of time tracking down people to get an invoice approved for payment.

Cons:

The ability to have more than one MS Invoice Edit batch open with MS Invoices to deliver has been a challenge as the software will send blank invoices to customers. Since moving to the cloud environment with Viewpoint One the users have complaints of lagging data entry times and payroll processing has been slower.

The best tools for managing everything related to projects and their supply chains

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: Help Vista improve information regarding material delivery dates to make work program updates more realistic. I enjoy our information's organization. Getting orders and schedules to suppliers on time is great.

Pros:

All team members will be able to see the company's supply basket, which includes invoices, quotes, and requests. Enhances the ability to access all relevant data from a single control panel, making transitioning between tasks simpler. Everyone on the crew will receive regular updates and alerts to keep all requests current and under evaluation with Vista. Vista will also increase supplier-worker communication, hence minimizing the risk of supply chain disruption. To ensure that everyone's entitlements and rights are known, it has kept the supply chain tracking processes on track from beginning to end. This has facilitated open and honest agreements between all parties involved.

Cons:

The staff was able to get up and running with Vista right away after they had completed the training and familiarized themselves with its capabilities and how to use them. There are no drawbacks here.

Alternatives Considered:

Shifting our users to the Web Based Viewpoint options, less in Vista

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: The web-based integrations like Keystyles, TEAMs, and Analytics have been instrumental in user's mobility

Pros:

TEAMs and Analytics have been great additions

Cons:

SQL platform is dated and slow. Very few updates to Vista functionality.

While difficult to setup, it is an integrated system handling our Service Management, project management, Document management and Accounting and has eliminated duplicate entry we used to have to do with our old system.

4.0 8 years ago

Comments: If I could go back in time and look at the software purchase again, I would still go with Viewpoint. While the process takes an enormous investment in time, it has been worth the work.

Pros:

It is integrated and allows us to share information more easily across the entire team. We can attach documents to transactions allowing us to have info at out fingertips allowing us to answer questions from clients without having to go and pull paper files to research the answer. It is very versatile, allowing us to create custom fields that are not over written when updates come out. this allows us to customize the software to allow us to do business "our" way.

Cons:

The Versatility that makes this product so good is also a con in that it makes it more difficult to setup. If you come from a simple solution to Viewpoint, you don't know what you don't know and you may make some short sighted decisions on how to setup or implement the product. Our implementation team from Viewpoint did a great job of trying to point out some of those potential pitfalls.

Worst implementation experience ever... A lot of turn over in there team that "helps" you too. Company has too many Growing Pains that affect the customer.

1.0 7 years ago

Pros:

This software is pretty user friendly and it is pretty efficient for the line of work we do. We are a manufacture of Concrete products and its hard to find a software that can handle our line of work like that.

Cons:

The implementation was absolutly one of the worst experiances ever. It took us over a year and a half just to get started with the system. We went through project mangers after project managers because the company was restructuring. Which was hard on use because we pay a lot of money for them to come out and try to help us implement this. We would have explain everything over and over when someone would be replaced. It got really old. Not to mention you have to watch when you get customized things done. They do not do these in house and they are never on a deadline for you. We constantly work around their schedules and not ours. I personally would have looked harder into something else before going this route. It just seems as though this company because they are owned by investors is having too many trickle down effects ultimately on the customers. Not good business.

Vista Support

3.0 8 years ago

Comments: Overall it has been positive. Last year was hard but with the new customer service initiative there has been a big improvement, although there is still a long way to go in that regard.

Pros:

There are a ton of options for customization and it's super easy to use once you know how each form works. The grids are amazing and the reporting options are great for customization. The learning base can be a bit confusing when it comes to finding information, but when it comes to actually learning a new feature you can usually figure everything out without needing to place a call to Vista. Also, the knowledge base articles are good when they are sent from support. The main pro of Vista is the possibility. There are a ton of other products with other vendors and within Viewpoint and the options are great.

Cons:

With the customization comes a lot of room for errors. Also the release notes for next versions don't feel complete and when you get an issue half the time they tell you it was fixed in the next upgrade and their recommendation is to update as a fix. Also the customer service has come a long way but it still needs work. In the opening speech they mentioned the response times and the resolution times and I don't think I have ever had someone call me back in less than 3 days for my initial contact. Also there are multiple cases created for the same issue anytime it is transferred to a new department. So I have a case that has been open since May 2016, but I'm on my 4th case number so whenever someone gets the new case it looks like its only been open since September.

Review of Viewpoint Vista

4.0 3 years ago

Pros:

We have been using Viewpoint since 2010 the software is straight forward and way ahead of our previous software COINS. Viewpoint keeps their software updated and with recent purchase of the company by Trimble they are really putting an effort into making it better.

Cons:

Sometimes updates come out and their are bugs and so another update is put out to correct the issues. A good strategy is to wait a few weeks after an update comes out so it's fully vetted.

Highly Customizable Construction ERP

4.0 2 years ago

Pros:

The customizability of Vista is by far my favorite. We have created a variety of custom reports to help increase efficiencies and present information according to a user's desire.

Cons:

Vista sometimes pushes out updates that don't seem to be completely vetted. Updates will sometimes create more problems than they fix and users have to wait until Viewpoint fixes the additional issues.

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: Like a good marriage - there have been some ups and downs, but mostly ups.

Pros:

Field can easily do what they need to do and also manage their jobs from anywhere Fully integrated with accounting functions - PR, AP, AR, GL Easy customization Viewpoint listens to us - their customers Aggressively pursues solutions to keep us competitive On the leading edge of technology

Cons:

Customer service can be slow sometimes, but have come up with alternative self-serve solutions through "Clearview" - I love the "Knowledge Base" solution

Great Software!

5.0 8 years ago

Pros:

Heavily integrated and breaks down facets of construction industry well using the modules that feed information to each other. I work with the AP module and it is easy to use and understand. The reports offered and useful and easy to manipulate. The equipment module is fabulous as well though we don't use it to its full potential just yet.

Cons:

It is difficult to make a change to something posted in a closed month. I was able to find a way to remedy this online and fixed it immediately. Sometimes it does take customer service a while to call you back on a service ticket, however, most answers can be answered by doing research individually in clear view.

to Vista from a custom app

5.0 8 years ago

Comments: The heart of Viewpoint is it's people. There are many software packages with lots of features in the market. The big difference it the staff that you work with before and during conversion as well as the support staff afterward. Viewpoint technical support people are knowledgeable and take the time to work with you to resolve any issues.

Pros:

We had spent a decade with a custom built application. The Vista (Viewpoint) system was able to provide all the function we had and needed as well as giving so much more in features. The system is very flexible and can a few setting adjustments can be tailored to fit our needs. The information provided ranges from very detailed to summarized as needed. A powerful system.

Cons:

The only cons I can think of revolve around the ability to customize the system. If you are moving to Vista from another app, take the time needed to work with your Viewpoint rep before and during the conversion. We had a few changes to make afterward that would have not been needed had we talked them over with our conversion rep. It will be time well spent.

Very happy with this software!

4.0 7 years ago

Pros:

It is an all in one product. We can do everything from our project budgets and cost tracking to HR items, all accounting functions, the list goes on and on. Prior to this software we were using many different and basic programs to run our company but now we are all one the same system. This has created synergies and made us more efficient.

Cons:

Since there are so many programs and reports available, sometimes it can be hard to find what you are looking for. And at times you can get many errors if you missed a step or entered something incorrectly but this is a minor annoyance.

Robust but Very Difficult

4.0 6 years ago

Pros:

Very robust software that can do just about anything from finances (contracts, purchasing, forecasting, billings, etc), project management (RFIs, submittals, drawing tracker, etc.) to HR (timecards, training, etc.)

Cons:

VERY difficult to learn and get used to the dynamics. It takes a lot of stick time to understand how things work and the best way of doing them.

It's a failure

2.0 8 years ago

Comments: So sorry to many of our hundreds of subcontractors that I had originally recommended to this product...several made the jump. All are very unhappy.

Pros:

Possibilities to work with Microsoft platform. SQL based and therefore we have the ability to get to the information we really need (all-be-it backdoor).

Cons:

Poor execution and support. No system based financials. Poorly structured work flow. Weak asset management. Weak scheduling. Three years later still not working as well as Computer Ease. Just paid to go back top Computer Ease (although it has its own issues).

Review of Viewpoint Software

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: Overall, we love Viewpoint. It is one of the better construction software on the market today. Viewpoint listens to the needs of its users and is always striving to improve the product.

Pros:

Viewpoint is very user friendly and easy to use. It allows you to integrate the accounting functions without having to use a different software. It is a great fit for the construction industry.

Cons:

I did not like the Financial Management system. But viewpoint listened and they are coming out with a new financial software.
